Except for this short added comment (inside the box), this is the home page from my 2003 campaign for Region 1 Director of the League of American Bicyclists. I am keeping the campaign pages online, with introductory comments, for the information of League members.

...And at more length:

I am now on the ballot for election as LAB Regional Director for New York and New England. Thanks to everyone who sent in a petition form!

Would you like to help elect me?

There are several ways you can help, and I've spelled them out so it's easy.

My credentials

You may read my résumé, and endorsements from three former presidents of the League, among others.

My platform...why am I running?

I want to help get the League's advocacy efforts and services back on track with its members' interests and concerns. A pop-up ad on the League's Web site provides a good example of the League's problems

What should League members get in return for dues?

1) The League needs to be responsive to its members. Particularly, the League's advocacy vision needs to reflect members' concerns rather than losing its voice in a coalition with overlapping -- but not identical -- interests.

2) The League has dropped support for the volunteer network which used to multiply the League's reach and influence by many times. The League needs to restore outreach to members and support for volunteers.

About the Bike-Ed Program

I have been an Effective Cycling Instructor/ League Cycling Instructor since 1982. I have a deep interest in and concern for the program.

A selection from the new Bike-Ed manual --read it and decide!

My position on bicycle facilities and programs

I have been an active member of bicycle committees advising on bicycle facilities and programs. I have published a substantial amount of material about them on the Internet. I am moderate on these issues, and flexible within reason, but I take a strong stand on issues of safety and of cyclists' rights.  Read more about my positions.

How to reach me:

Questions? Please write me, call 781 891-9307, or e-mail me.

You don't live in Region 1?

You can still write an endorsement, or make your opinions known to the board member for your region. And if you live in Region 4 (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio), please see the campaign statement of Fred Oswald, who is running on a similar platform

Thank you!
