LOOKING NORTH FROM
THE ROOF OF THE ALEWIFE
STATION PARKING GARAGE

The photo panorama below shows the southern end of the Minuteman Trail as it appeared during the week of June 1, 2001.

The trail which curves along the right side of the photo has been in place only since the late 1990s. Before then, bicyclists and pedestrians uncomfortably shared the narrow east sidewalk of the access road, which, in a marvel of safe design, is mostly inside the guardrail. The west sidewalk, which is the pedestrian route from businesses along Route 2, is also inside the guardrail.

The trail was intended to separate bicyclists from pedestrians, but now, no wonder, most pedestrians, as well as bicyclists, prefer the trail.

Thanks to Scott Smith for the photos!
